Welcome
The Sports Media Certificate program at UGA is the first of its kind in the Southeastern Conference and the most in-depth program in the country.
The program is directed by Prof. Vicki Michaelis, a 20-year veteran of the sports media industry at outlets including USA Today, where
she was the lead Olympics reporter for 12 years.
The interdisciplinary program debuted in Fall 2014. It gives students foundational knowledge of the societal impact of sports and sports media, along with in-depth training, multi-platform skills and a distinct job-market advantage in one of the media industry’s growth sectors.
Sports Media Certificate graduates work as network producers, TV reporters and anchors, social media coordinators, sports beat writers and media relations directors.
On this site you’ll find the information you need to get started if you’re interested in joining the program. If you have any questions, please contact Prof. Carlo Finlay, at carlof@uga.edu. His office is located in the Carmical Sports Media Institute office suite, on the fourth floor of the Journalism building.
