The Sports Media Bureau works with local partners, including the Athens Banner-Herald and area high schools, to give students real-world experience covering high school and college sports and producing event broadcasts.
Students who work with the Banner-Herald write advances, features and game stories about local high school sports and some UGA sports. The Banner-Herald also frequently publishes students’ class assignments. While this a great opportunity, you must be in the Sports Media Certificate program to work with the Banner-Herald.
You can join the Sports Media Bureau broadcast team before being accepted into the Sports Media Certificate program. Students produce live-stream and on-demand high school sports broadcasts on the NFHS Network, giving them experience in event production, color commentary, play-by-play, sideline reporting and graphics.
The Sports Media Bureau is a great chance to get real-world experience. If you are interested in working with the Sports Media Bureau, please contact Prof. Carlo Finlay at carlof@uga.edu.
